UC in D.C., Fall 2026
Casey Chang
Casey Chang is an undergraduate studying Environmental Science and Political Science. She transferred to UC Berkeley from Mission College, and her experiences have shaped her interest in public education, environmental policy, and community-based advocacy.
Her academic interests focus on the intersection of science, policy, and public perception, particularly in the context of conservation and climate action. She previously served as the governor’s appointed student representative on the California Community College Board of Governors, where she advocated for over 2.2 million students and gained firsthand experience in state-level policymaking.
Her work in public service is complemented by her role as a staff writer for The Daily Californian, where she reports on student government and local policy, and by her experience developing a statewide climate fellowship for community college students in collaboration with the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office.
Casey is currently researching how animal cognition messaging influences public support for conservation and is contributing to a literature review for the Journal of Applied Ecology. She is interested in scientific communication and environmental storytelling as tools to strengthen democratic engagement and inform policy decisions.
